You guys!! Can I just say OY!!! It’s been a hot minute since I last posted and I realize that I’ve probably lost what few loyal followers I had but I promise I’m working on some new content and it won’t disappoint.

This spring and summer has left my heart truly upheavalled. We lost an incredibly special family member and more than that one from my tribe.  I have been reeling to say the least.  So I’ve deliberately been taking the time off to get some sort of life balance back and let my heart mourn on it’s own schedule.  I’ve struggled with my “comeback post” here on the blog.  I didn’t know if I wanted to even acknowledge my absence or if I should just jump right into some fabulous recipe but authenticity got the better of me (which I’m grateful for) and I felt like recognizing why I’ve been MIA was important.

Loss of any kind is hard…and grieving is a term I’m learning has a lot of edges and complexities.  I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family, healing and hurting.  My new mission has been to fill every single moment right up to the brim and our summer has truly reflected this.  One thing I’m learning is that it’s ok to let the pain shine.  Giving it validation isn’t something I wanted to do at first.  But I’m learning through the support of some amazing people in my life that it is more than ok to cry…and even more so, it is ok to smile again too.  One. Day. At. A. Time….but with purpose.  That is my mantra.

So with all that said I look forward to getting back online and sharing some of my life with you…the lessons, the little hacks, the delight, the delicious, the time-saving, the messy and all the real.

Thank you for sticking around, I promise it’ll be worth it!

Lost & Found

I’m back! After a very long spring and summer hiatus I finally have some reformity and transformity in my life.

I’ve been rather transparent with my mental health journey in the past and I work hard to maintain as much of a balance in my life as I can but I truly needed to practice what I preach and take a good long hard look in the mirror these past months.  Dealing with depression and anxiety is no joke, it’s crippling at times…and it’s a constant work in progress.

I’ve struggled with the decision to go back on my meds or not and after a lot of research and soul searching I’ve decided to try different avenues for now. I fear the side effects of antidepressants more than anything at this point.  What I’ve done instead is perhaps a bit hippy-dippy…I’ve stocked my home with essential oils to diffuse and roll-on, I’ve amped my gut health vitamins and nutrients as well as be more consistent with my multi-vitamins. (Did you know there’s a direct relationship between your gut and your mental health? My regime now includes probiotics AND prebiotics.). I’ve also started to take time 3-5 times a week to study some personal growth “textbooks” (which right now include a lot of Brene Brown “The Gifts of Imperfection” and Sarah Knight “The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck).   I’m slowly learning what it means to trust myself and stand up for myself.  I’m a perfectionist in the most ugly ways of that word.  I am learning to be kinder to myself.  Asking for help is THE HARDEST thing for me.  It smells and tastes like failure and I really need to change my perspective on that (once again, practice what I preach!). I have a lot to learn and a long way to go but I needed to take that time to focus on my health.

I’m all about the simple things, the little pleasures and the morsels of happy-inducing that flutter through our lives daily. I had gotten to a place of so much pain, bleakness, guilt, worry, regret and just plain old despair that I couldn’t shake the dark cloud that had made its home over me.   I needed to refocus and get back to a healthier head space. I needed to do this for me and my family. So that in turn led to way less blogging and photographing for the blog (which can I just say has gotten a lot harder with my impatient helper!! Lol!)…BUT I’m back! I’m still working on me but I’m breathing a little bit easier everyday! So the lost has been found.

I encourage you to take the time you need for your own heart and health too!  It’s a day-to-day process and it takes compassion and persistence.  It ultimately starts with you but there are many ways to get help…don’t go it alone.

Turning ONE…

I cannot believe how fast a year goes by.  It literally feels like I just launched this little passion project and here we are…ONE YEAR OLD!  I’m proud of myself for sticking to it and I’m proud of all of you for sticking it out with me.  I have to admit I’ve struggled getting solid posts up on the blog consistently…I vow to work on that!  As E grows so does his need for even more activity and learning and flat out busy-ness.  (I am well aware that this is only the tip of the iceberg as far as being busy with kids!)

This year I’ve learned a lot.  I’ve learned some ‘techy stuff’ as I fumble my way through the blog and the book-keeping I do on the side.  I’m not naturally a left-brainer, numbers and formulas are not my strong suit.  Neither is computing.  I prefer to be more creative, and imaginative. Having said this I am definitely more left-brained in my thought processing, I’m analytical and I tend to be more logical in problem solving.  Either way, I’m enjoying testing my brain and learning this new scope of things.

I’m also learning to be more conscious of my time.  This works two ways. One, I try to not waste time.  I’m typically efficient and I do a lot in a day…I’m trying to do more, specifically where “A Simple Living” is concerned.  I’m learning the value of time management (blech!).  Having said this though, I’m led to number two, I’m learning to live in the moment more and appreciate every minute in the day.  Time is truly so fleeting and what is here today can so easily be gone tomorrow.  The other night my husband and I spent a good portion of the evening scrolling through old videos of E.  I was nearly tearful at how much he’s grown and changed and how idiotic I was to think that “he was so grown-up and big” then…my word what is gonna happen to my when he treks off to kindergarten (somebody better come hold me!).

I’ve learned a lot about myself.  I’m impatient, stubborn, overly organized, rigid and thorough.  I think WAY to much.  I’m not nearly outspoken enough and yet I don’t listen nearly enough.  Basically I need to just breathe!  One of my goals for the new year this year was to be more spontaneous…I’m trying.  Having said all this my stubborn-ness has led me to push myself to try and retry new things.  My organization has made this possible and my over-thinking has created so many new projects and different methods for learning.  I’m still a work in progress after all…and so is this blog!

I look forward to sharing more tips, tricks, creative projects, yummy ideas for the kitchen to share with your littles and celebrate with your loves, and so much more.  This next year has a lot in store for “A Simple Living” and I hope you continue to travel on this journey with me and that you continue to remember to appreciate the simple things! From the bottom of my heart I thank you for coming this far!

Cheers! (I really should have baked a cake or something!)

This 2-month Blog-iversary…

I’ve been working on this creative project of mine for  2 months now and although I still have so much to learn, (like how to tag my goodies on Pinterest and effectively upload photos straight from my computer, not through my phone to name a few) I’m truly enjoying the process!

I’ve been trying to get into the routine of posting multiple times throughout the week (Monday, Wednesday and then Friday/Saturaday) but as the rhythm of life beats to its own drum I’ve been struggling with this.  I want to stay as authentic as I can and since the basis for all of my ramblings is through real-life experiences and challenges, I must continue to live…and with a nearly two-year old (gasp how has that happened so quickly) I am forced to do the life part by his schedule as well!  So please continue to bear with me as we continue to create for ‘a simple living’!  I have a lot of topics planned for the months ahead that I’m getting prepared for and excited to share and of course there’s the day-to-day articles that seem to just write themselves!

I’d like to thank my followers for jumping on board with me on this adventure!  There are 298 of you so I know you’re not all just family and friends (as I don’t have that large of a family and unlike my social butterfly brother, I do not have that many friends)!  Through letting you catch a glimpse of what makes up my life I do consider you all friends in some way tho and I really hope that this ‘friendship’ can continue!  It’s rather insane to think about it if I let myself…298 followers is quite amazing for a small-town blogger with a vivid dream so thank-you!

This Official “Launch”

I’m so excited to finally have enough “meat” on the bones of this blog to officially launch it to the Facebook world!  I’ve been planning A Simple Living for quite some time now and finally have the courage to bring it to life!  I’m not very tech savvy so I continue to learn and grow as I post!

If you’re new to my site I invite you to stop back any and all the time!  I plan to continue to bulk up this beauty with my own personal insight and day-to-day accomplishments and struggles of parenthood and living simply as frequently as I can!  You can follow A Simple Living by clicking on “follow” (at the bottom of every page) and you’ll then receive email updates for whenever I post something new.  (And please feel free to let me know your thoughts too!  I’d love to hear from you!)

I hope if nothing else I can allow you to take a minute to remember the simple things in your own world that you are grateful for.  Slowing down in this busy life is something that is so often taken for granted. Remember to breathe! (A self-reminder at this point more than anything!!).
